Bioinformatics Training Course

As part of the Bioinformatics and Genomics Core Services, VBI is continuing to offer bioinformatics training courses to MARCE participants. We have recently updated the course material to include use cases of particular relevance to the researchers. To this end, we are using molecular data sets for MARCE organisms, starting with Francisella tularensis. As shown in the agenda below, topics include:

Key Algorithms in Lead Discovery
Searches
Sequence Alignment
Phylogeny
Protein Function Prediction
Advanced Searches
Genome Comparisons
Vaccine Candidate Targeting

The sessions are interactive, and include both background theory and hands-on use of a variety of bioinformatics tools appropriate for the tasks. The sessions are one day long, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. We will be holding them in classrooms on the local campus with PC workstations in them. Based on interest, we have scheduled a training session in Baltimore for October 9, 2007.

We plan to provide refreshments and lunch for the participants. If you are interested in attending one of these sessions, please contact Cory Byrd at cbyrd@vbi.vt.edu and provide your name and email address.

Thank you, and we hope to see you there!
